With Virat Kohli’s participation in the early stages of the Indian Premier still in doubt, Royal Challengers Bangalore are all set to suffer another setback as KL Rahul is likely to miss the upcoming tenth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 2017) due to surgery on his injured shoulder.

The India opener, who starred with the bat in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar series, suffered the injury during the first Test in Pune but played through the pain barrier.

“(My shoulder) It gets quite sore. I can’t quite dive on the field. There are a few shots that I will have to restrict. I will play within myself. Even I do, it’s not that I can’t score, I have all the shots in the book. That is what I spoke to the management and the captain. I will have to focus more with the problem in my shoulder. I am still enjoying batting with that problem,” he had said after scoring two fifties in India’s win in the Bengaluru Test.

However, the player, it seems, is not willing to take risk any more as he is all set to go under the knife for his shoulder.

Ace commentator, Harsha Bhogle shared the news through his Twitter handle. Bhogle tweeted:“Oh dear @RCBTweets, on the heels of losing @imVkohli for a while, now the reported absence of @klrahul11 due to surgery. This will hurt.”

Losing Rahul will definitely be a huge blow for the Bangalore-based franchise which is sweating it out on the fitness of their maverick skipper Virat Kohli. The India skipper is yet to recover from the shoulder injury that he had sustained during the Ranchi Test against Australia.

Rahul was key to RCB’s fortunes last year when they finished the season as the runners-up. The Karnataka opener, who had struggled to get going in the shortest format of the game prior to the last season, was a revelation with the bat in the 2016 season, scoring 397 runs in 14 games at an average of 44.11. He also carried out wicketkeeping duties for his team.
